Plein Air Paint Out

in Historic Marietta
March 31 - April 1, 2012

Artists will paint local public and private sites in beautiful Historic Marietta. From the local homes and gardens, to the dynamic architecture of downtown, Historic Marietta has many picturesque scenes perfect for plein air painting. The Marietta Cobb Museum’s Inaugural Plein Air Paint Out will feature a judged exhibition and sale on display at Surace Art Studios (located directly behind the museum).

Rules

Artists may submit two pieces for judging. All works must be done en plein air without the assistance of photographs. All working surfaces must be stamped at registration and must be turned in at the end of the day on Saturday (see schedule below). Painting and drawing media are accepted. No photography or photographic processes are allowed.

Though framing is not required, MCMA will provide a space at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art for contestants to frame works and/or prepare them for hanging. Artists should bring any supplies necessary. MCMA will not provide hanging supplies. This space will be available from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.on Saturday, March 31st and from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1st. Please plan accordingly.

Restrictions

Works may be no larger than 36 inches in any direction. Artists may submit up to 2 completed works for judging. All working surfaces (canvas, paper, etc.) will be stamped at registration and all registered canvases must be turned in at the end of the day on Saturday.

Sales

Completed works may be listed for sale. The Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art accepts a 30% commission on works sold. Works will be displayed at Surace Art Studios on Saturday, March 31st until Sunday, April 8th (unless sold).

Awards

1-Year Museum Membership plus:

  • 1st Place: $250
  • 2nd Place: $150
  • 3rd Place: $50

Schedule (Rain or Shine)

Friday, March 30, 2012 (reception)

5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.: Artist Registration and Reception at MCMA.

Saturday, March 31, 2012 (painting day)

7:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.: Artist Registration and Canvas Check-In. Artists begin painting.
4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.: All registered canvases must be submitted between 4 and 6 p.m.

Sunday, April 1, 2012 (painting day)

7:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.: Canvas pick-up. Artists continue painting.
3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.: Artists submit final work for judging.
5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.: Artist Reception and Award Ceremony.

Works on display/ for sale at Surace Art Studio

Sunday, April 8, 2012:

2 p.m. - 4 p.m.Artists pick up unsold work.

 

Non-Refundable Registration Fees (Rain or Shine)

Registration forms and waivers must be completed and returned along with fee to be eligible for competition. All fees are non-refundable. Rain or Shine.

  • Pre-Register until March 23rd before 5 p.m.: $25 members / $30 non-members
  • Late Registration from March 24th - March 30th: $35 members / $40 non-members
