For the Love of Glass

For the Love of Glass

April 8 – June 18, 2017

Pilchuck Glass School began with a simple notion: Dale Chihuly wanted to gather a group of artists to blow glass in the Northwest.  But it took more than boundless enthusiasm to make that first summer happen twenty-five years ago.  Through a major donation of funds and a site, Anne Gould Hauberg and John Hauberg turned Dale’s dream into reality and in the process gave life to their belief in the value of creative freedom and artistic experimentation.

Pilchuck was founded in 1971, what began as a one-summer glassblowing workshop has grown into the world’s most comprehensive center for glass art education. Pilchuck now hosts more than 500 students and artists each summer and is guided by a forty-one-member Board of Trustees. Pilchuck’s history is filled with stories of hard work, passion, and generosity. Their philosophy of education flows from Dale Chihuly’s original idea of “artists teaching artists,” and after nearly forty years, that concept still holds true.

The relationship between the artists-

Thirteen artists are featured in this exhibition, For the Love of Glass, the majority of whom attended Pilchuck.  They have continued to encourage and inspire their fellow glass artisans, fostering a love of glass and pushing beyond traditional expectations.

How the exhibition is curated-

This exhibition has been curated by grouping the work of each artist to provide the viewer a unique and concentrated display in the style and talent of those that have continued Dale’s philosophy of artist teaching artists.
