Vault Renovation Campaign

What's a Vault?

“The Vault” is a nickname for our secure art storage facility. Over the years many generous artists and art patrons have contributed work to the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art Permanent Collection. When these pieces of art aren’t on display, they’re safely housed in the Vault.

Part of a museum’s public responsibility is to preserve the items in their Permanent Collection. All objects age, and art is no exception. Light, heat, humidity, and handling can cause a lot of permanent damage in a very short amount of time. A good vault protects art by reducing exposure to these environmental factors.

Why We Need Help

Most vaults are specially built to meet important preservation standards. The MCMA Vault, however, had to be shoe-horned into the existing structure of a historic building from 1909. That wasn’t an ideal beginning.

Our Vault needs expansion, modernization, and significant renovations to keep up with current industry standards and provide a safe forever home for the Museum’s collection of fine art. These upgrades will allow us to better preserve history and care for treasured objects so that they may be enjoyed and studied by future generations. With your help we can finally begin this crucial project in the first quarter of 2022.
