Supplies
-1 small watercolor sketchbook (5″x7″ is fine):
Something inexpensive is fine, like Strathmore tape-bound
pads. Students can also use other types like Canson or
Moleskin watercolor sketchbooks, but they are more costly.
-2 or 3 larger watercolor pads (8.5″x11″ or 9″x12″ is good). Again,
inexpensive paper will work fine.
-A few pencils (#2 is good),
-1 set of watercolors (tubes are preferable). It’s best not going
too inexpensive on paints. There are a few good student sets
like Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolors (10 tube set) or
Grumbacher Academy Artists’ Watercolors (10 tube set). If you
already have a set that’s not one of the above, that’s okay too.
-Assorted watercolor brushes. You can start with 3 varied width
rounds (1″ wide, 1/2″ wide and a pointed round). Prices in the
middle range are good. Don’t buy inexpensive brushes as the
hairs will likely fall out.
Additional Supplies:
-Paper towels, masking or blue painter’s tape, small container for water (baby food jar is good)
