Beginning Glass Fusing

Students will learn the basic techniques of glass fusing. Topics to be discussed and demonstrated will be:

  • Brief history of glass fusing
  • Glass compatibility
  • Glass cutting
  • Designing on glass
  • Preparing the kiln shelf using Papyros paper release
  • Discuss firing schedules
  • Discuss glass project results

Each student will create a glass piece in each class. By the end of the 4-week course each student will have created several glass pieces including square tiles, square and round slumped bowls.

Glass Fusing is for students 16 years old and older.

Safety: No open toe shoes. Wear socks.

Tools: All tools and glass materials included

Bring a notebook to take notes.

Saturday Class – 11:15 am – 1:15 pm

Tuesday Class – 11:15 am – 1:15 pm

Cost is $245 for members/ $265 for non members

** MCMA is not liable for any projects that do not survive the process of firing in the Kiln due to inappropriate construction of the artwork.

Intermediate Glass Fusing

Students will learn techniques of glass fusing. Licha will guide you through the next level of glass fussing. By the end of the 4-week course each student will have created several glass pieces including square tiles, square and round slumped bowls.

Each student will create one glass piece in each class – working with the equivalent of 3 – 5” x 5” sheets of glass. Additional supplies (3 – 5” x 5”-inch equivalent of glass sheets) is available for an additional is $15.

Class is on Sunday’s 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Cost is $245 for members/ $265 for non members

Open Glass Studio

Participants must have completed or be enrolled in Beginning Glass or Intermediate Glass or have glass cutting experience.

No instruction provided. This is an open studio session. You need to have taken a glass fusing class with MCMA or have prior experience with glass. Note: Studio Monitor is not responsible for cutting your glass.

You are welcome to create one piece of new work with the equivalent of 3 – 5” x 5” sheets of glass. Additional supplies (3 – 5” x 5”-inch equivalent of glass sheets) is available for an additional is $15.

Class runs Wednesdays 11:15 am – 1:15 pm

Cost is $80 per session
