Beginning Glass Fusing

Mandatory Glass Materials: $55
Students will learn the basic techniques of glass fusing, creating several glass pieces including square tiles, along with square and round slumped bowls. Topics to be discussed and demonstrated will be:
• Brief history of glass fusing
• Glass compatibility
• Glass cutting
• Designing on glass
• Preparing the kiln shelf using Papyros paper release
• Discuss firing schedules
• Discuss glass project results
Each student will create one glass piece in each class – working with the equivalent of 2 – 6” x 6” sheets of glass. Additional supplies (1 – 6” x 6” equivalent of glass sheet) is available for an additional $15 per class period.
Safety: No open toe shoes. Wear socks.
Bring a notebook to take notes.
** MCMA is not liable for any projects that do not survive the process of firing in the Kiln due to inappropriate construction of the artwork.
Intermediate Glass Fusing

Licha will guide you through the next level of glass fusing. By the end of the 4-week course, each student will have created several glass pieces including square tiles, and square and round slumped bowls.
Each student will create one glass piece in each class – working with the equivalent of 2 – 6” x 6” sheets of glass. Additional supplies (1 – 6” x 6” equivalent of glass sheet) is available for an additional $15 per class period.

Open Studios
No instruction provided. This is an open studio session. You need to have taken a glass fusing class with MCMA or have prior experience with glass. Note: Studio Monitor is not responsible for cutting your glass.
You are welcome to create one piece of new work with the equivalent of 2 – 6” x 6” sheets of glass.
Additional supplies (1 – 6” x 6”-inch equivalent of glass sheet) is available for an additional $15 which can be purchased in class.
